COMMUNICATIONS
FOR RESCUE AND EMERGENCY SITUATIONS
If you own a Motorola Talk-About FRS radio bring it with you. Talk-About radios
have a 2 mile talking range and are powered by three AA batteries.
We are in the process of developing and implementing
a universal standard for Emergencies and Rescue operations at El Potrero Chico.
The standard will be for a group or
individuals to carry Motorola Talk-About radios and have them tuned to channel 9-1.
When an Emergency or Help is need
a climber or individual can make a call on ch 9-1 for help. This will enable communications between a climbing party and someone
on the ground, who may alert responders for HELP/ RESCUE.
Climbers who are trained in Medical and Rescue operations
may respond to provide help.
A Talk-About radio can be used when an individual or group is being picked up from the
airport. The party and person picking them up can go to channel 9/1 to communicate and advise of their location.
Our
goal is for climbers to utilize the Talk-About radio for all sorts of communications and not just Emergencies/Rescues.
